The Bible is an awe-inspiring book. It is full of promises, truth, principles, and warnings. It contains hope, instruction, and wisdom. The Bible is also like a mirror. When we consider what it tells us about ourselves, we begin to see our blemishes in its brightness, and in it’s truth.
As we consider this topic of Christ increasing in our thoughts, we are going to first be hit with an uncomfortable fact—our thoughts are not all that amazing to God. Consider a few verses of the Bible regarding our thoughts:
Genesis 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Psalms 94:11 The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.
1 Corinthians 3:19-20 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.
Why do I want to point out God’s view of our thought-life? Because I am fairly certain that none of us place Christ high enough in our thoughts. He must increase in preeminence. Listen to this verse:
Colossians 1:18 And he (Christ) is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. (This includes our thoughts, amen?)
Put Christ first in your thoughts. Make Him increase in your decision making. Be ashamed if ever you entertain thoughts that would not please Him. Here’s instruction for mature followers of Christ, or for those who wish to be mature followers of Christ:
2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Wow! Bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. That’s powerful instruction.
And now, here’s a practical exercise to make Jesus increase in your thoughts. Are you ready? Memorize scripture. Allow this verse about Jesus to repeat over and over in your head. Read this verse five times morning, noon and night until you can recite it by heart. Jesus will increase in your thoughts as you memorize this verse. Christ will increase in your heart as you begin living out this verse. Then He will increase in your actions, and your actions will affect others. This way Christ will increase greatly. Now, begin memorizing this verse. Become a disciple of this one verse, and Jesus will definitely increase in your life.
Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Have an awesome and inspired day in Christ today!
HE MUST INCREASE.
