Welcome to the Antioch’s HE MUST INCREASE Daily Devotional.
The theme of our church this year is the Bible verse, John 3:30, where John the Baptist says, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” John the Baptist said this because before Jesus began His public ministry, John was baptizing a lot of people. When Jesus came on the scene, people started flocking to Christ. Onlookers were confused and wondered why John the Baptist’s followers were diminishing. John understood the order of things, and he knew that Jesus must have the preeminence.
Listen to some of the things John the Baptist said about Jesus:
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: —Matthew 3:11
But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? —Matthew 3:14
John 1:15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
John the Baptist understood the divine order of things. He knew Jesus was stronger and mightier than himself. He felt as though he had no business baptizing Jesus, but Jesus commanded it. John knew Jesus was preferred before him. He also knew more. Listen to what else John said about Jesus:
John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
John 1:34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
Do you know Jesus as the Lamb of God that taketh away your sin? Have you asked Him to forgive you of your sins? Are you willing to allow Him to increase in your thoughts, words and actions today? Jesus deserves to increase in our lives. As John said, “This is the Son of God.”
HE MUST INCREASE!
