Today is the first day of the rest of your eternal life.
Talk about a shocking opening statement! We who are in Christ have everlasting life. It began the day we believed the Gospel, that is, the death, burial and rising again of Jesus from the dead. He is alive, and because He lives, so shall we. Jesus said in John 14:19, “…because I live, ye shall live also.”
As believers, we freely admit that our bodies will die. We all understand that we are appointed to die. But we also realize that we are more than our bodies. Any person with an amputation or who is paralyzed will tell you that. We may lose our limbs, or be completely paralyzed, but we are more than our bodies. Our bodies age and eventually die, but we know our spirit renews itself and grows stronger and stronger as we experience Christ.
When I say that today is the first day of the rest of your eternal life I am trying to emphasize that you and I are living out our eternal lives now. Today. This very moment. We won’t someday be alive forever, we are alive forever at this very moment. That’s where the title for this devotion—Everlasting Praises—comes from.
Psalms 106:47-48 Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise. Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the LORD.
We give thanks today to God for His great salvation, as mentioned in the verse above. We are to bless Him from everlasting to everlasting. We are to continue from this very moment praising Jesus Christ and continue praising Him throughout all eternity. Our everlasting praises begin in this life, now, and continue right on into the next. In this way Christ increases in our praise for all eternity. “And let all the people say, Amen!”
We had better start living as if we were alive forever starting now, because we truly are. We shall never die. We shall never cease to exist. We will be able to join in with the heavenly armies that are already praising Christ 24/7 at this moment. They are waiting for us to join in.
Revelation 4:10-11 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
Today is the first day of the rest of your eternity, so live it out that Christ may increase.
Have an awesome and inspired day in Christ.
