40 Days of Increase | Day 22
—by Pastor Don Weeks, Antioch Missionary Baptist Church
A heavenly mindset. An eternal perspective. It is crucial for our proper understanding of this life. The Word of God assumes eternity. Jesus came from the eternal hills and openly explained to us what the Kingdom of Heaven was like. He told us about His Father’s house and the brilliant glorious splendour of His life there before time. He tells us of the mansions He is personally preparing for us. It has been said, the Lord God created earth and even this entire universe in six days. Can you imagine what our mansions look like? He has been working on them for over 2000 years!
It is not a fairy tale. There is a life after this life. All of us, even those who believe there is no afterlife, will eventually run out of time.
Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
There is no reincarnation. There is only heaven or hell. There is eternity waiting for all of us:
1 John 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
A man or a woman without Christ in this life has already begun eternity without Christ. It will continue after this life, yet only get worse. A man or woman who believes in Jesus in this life has ended their eternity without Him. Their life gets better and better from now and throughout all eternity. Death from this life does not and cannot negatively affect a believer in Christ. Just the opposite. That’s why Paul says,
Philippians 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Your practical task for today
Pray and thank Jesus for the eternal life you are already enjoying in Him. (And write out your memory verse, Colossians 3:16) Maybe you are enjoying excellent physical health. Maybe you are very ill, and unsure about your prognosis, remember this: God loves you. If you are a believer, Your future—as difficult as it may be to envision it—is only getting better in Christ.
You have heard it said that none of us are guaranteed tomorrow. That statement is totally untrue for a believer in Christ! We are all guaranteed tomorrow! We are guaranteed an eternity with Jesus that literally is out of this world.
Now. let’s get really practical. Write your thoughts down in your notebook. Take one area of your life. Let’s consider your home, your family. Ask yourself this question and consider it carefully: What difference does it make, in light of eternity, if Christ increases in my home, among my family? Write down your thoughts in your notebook, or in the comments section below. Like the old classic Christmas movie, It’s A Wonderful Life, try to image your life and afterlife if you had never trusted Christ.
Then, and this is just as enlightening, try to image your life and afterlife as a believer. In one instance imagine that you live your home life with Christ placed at the bottom of the scale of importance. You say you’re a believer in Christ, but you never go to church, never pray with your children, and never read the Bible. What kind of legacy will you leave behind? And, what kind of eternity will you enjoy?
Now imagine a life on earth where your life in Christ is super-charged! Imagine Christ is placed sky-high on the scale of importance in your home, and among your family. What is different? What changes do you see? How will your home and family be different? How will your eternity be affected?
I feel God has called me to be an encourager. I want to lift you up. I want you to aspire to go higher for the Lord. I want to inspire and motivate you to do all you can do to cause Christ to increase in your life, and the lives of those without HIm.
Don’t we as believers want Jesus to say the following to all of us?
Matthew 25:23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
What would you like first the good news or the bad news? Well, since I want to leave on a positive note, I’ll give you the bad news first. Jesus is not going to say, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” if we have not been a good and faithful servant. But here’s the good news. All of us who trust Christ can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Let me get personal. Do you trust Christ? Then you can do all things through Christ. He strengthens you to do it!
I am praying for you. And more importantly, Chris ever liveth to make intercession for you! Have an awesome and inspired day in Christ. Remember, today is the first day of the rest of your eternity!
