I was at a preacher’s conference this past week. One of the speakers preached a powerful message about how we as believers must stand in the gap.
Ezekiel 22:30 And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.
God is looking for believers He can use to fill the gaps in our nation, families and churches. Of course, our Antioch theme verse was on my mind, so I started thinking about that, too.
John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
Then a simple thought emerged from the intersection of these two Bible verses: The only way to fill the gap is for Christ to increase. Or, to state it another way, The increase of Christ will fill the gaps. The Man God is really looking for to stand in the gap is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.
1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
When Christ increases in our lives, we become more like Christ. The more we allow Christ to increase in our lives, the more God can use us to be gap-fillers. The Apostle Paul understood this when He said,
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
And Jesus said,
John 15:5b …without me ye can do nothing.
God is looking to fill the gap. He needs a Man. That Man is Christ in you! Christ in us is the faithfulness God is looking for in us. It is the faithfulness that is in Christ that enables us to be gap-fillers. Remember,
Proverbs 25:19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
Our world is in trouble and God needs a Man to stand in the gap. The only Man big enough to fill that gap is Christ. Allow Him to increase in you!
HE MUST INCREASE
