We will start today off with a challenge. Your practical task for the day is to take your notebook and after having written down your memory verse of Colossians 3:17, I want you to write down everything – and I mean everything – that you eat and drink today.
I’m going to introduce you to the greatest diet in the world. You might be thinking, “Oh, he’s going to tell me that I must decrease because of the church theme verse for 2017.” The truth is while John 3:30, “He must increase, but I must decrease,” might seem like an appropriate diet model for a great percentage of Americans, the reality is that in many parts of the world people do not need to decrease physically, they are starving. What I declare to you today is the greatest diet in the world because it is a diet from God to all humans on the face of the earth.
It might seem humorous to suggest the verse, He must increase, but I must decrease, for a diet, but one must only decrease physically if they eat too much. No, when we say Jesus must increase and we must decrease we’re not talking about the size of our tape measure around our waists. We are talking about the preeminence of Christ in our lives. Jesus must increase. It is our selfish pride that must decrease.
God has always been very concerned with our health, physically. Our body is the temple of His Holy Spirit. Our body works together with our soul and spirit. It’s all God’s creation. The human body, is an amazing creation of God.
The greatest diet in the world is given to us from God. What we put into our mouth is very important. Just ask Adam and Eve who were told not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God fed His prophets in miraculous ways, and the children of Israel in the wilderness with His manna. Jesus fed crowds of thousands multiple times in the most miraculous ways. And don’t forget, Jesus is the Bread of Life, the essential food for everlasting life. If you do not know Him, taste and see that the Lord is good.
So what is the greatest diet in the world? It’s a diet of Christian mindfulness, and here it is. Before you put anything in your mouth, food or drink, write it down in your notebook and then ask yourself this question:
When I eat or drink this, will it glorify God?
Seriously, this is the greatest diet in the world. Food is enjoyable, food is wonderful, and food and drink is the awesome gift from God. But we are not to overindulge in His blessings. To do so, can turn a wonderful thing into a bad thing. Our overindulgence can turn God’s blessing into a curse.
If we sincerely live what the Bible says our lives will be much happier, a greater benefit to others, and a wonderful glory to God. I repeat, this is the greatest diet in the world. I say this on the authority of Scripture. Here is my proof verse for this diet being the world’s greatest.
1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
There you have it, the greatest diet in the world. I’m not trying to be funny, I am dead serious. Anything we eat, anything we drink, and everything we do should be done to the glory of God. Don’t you agree?
Have an awesome and inspired and amazing day in Christ!
