Always Abounding

—by Pastor Don Weeks, Antioch Baptist Church

Put on your spiritual seatbelt. Don’t forget the helmet—of salvation. This devotion is going to put you ON FIRE for the Lord. Brother, sister—on your mark, get set, HERE WE GO!

1 Corinthians 15:58  Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Want Christ to increase in your life? Like the speedometer on the dashboard of your life, it’s time to rev it up. It’s time to smash the pedal to the proverbial metal, and get it into gear for the Lord Jesus Christ. Let’s do what the Apostle Paul tells us to do in this verse. If we do, Christ will increase, guaranteed. Paul got his inspiration from God Almighty to write this, so these are His words. I hope you are wearing steel-toe shoes, because you just might get your toes stepped on by the Word of the Lord.

First, our verse says, “Therefor my beloved brethren.” Paul is your brother. He loves you. He wants you to give your all to Christ. He is the one who said,

Philippians 1:21  For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

He is also the one who told us how to accomplish anything and everything for Christ,

Philippians 4:13  I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

If you have trusted Jesus Christ as Savior, God is your Father, Paul is your brother, and the Holy Spirit is your guide. Just remember you are part of a spiritual family that loves you, prays for you, and wants what is best for you.

Second, our verse says, Be steadfast.”  These are not suggestions from God. No matter how much the world dislikes commands, these are our marching orders from God. As believers, we are supposed to be steadfast. Listen to this definition. This is how you and I are supposed to be:

Definition of steadfast: Resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering.“steadfast loyalty”.
Synonyms of steadfast: loyal, faithful, committed, devoted, dedicated, dependable, reliable, steady, true, constant, staunch, solid, trusty, firm, determined, resolute, relentless, implacable, single-minded, unchanging, unwavering, unhesitating, unfaltering, unswerving, unyielding, unflinching, uncompromising.
Wow. How are you doing so far. Feeling energized? Feeling challenged? Great! Let’s keep going.
Third, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable.” If you had any doubt about steadfast, this should clinch it for you. Unmovable. That means there is just no quit in you. You are going to resist evil. You are going to do good. You are going to fight that besetting sin and win! You are going to show compassion to others. You are going to stand your ground on God’s love and care for people like you know you should. You are going to allow Christ to increase in your heart and no height or depth or any other creature shall be able to move you. You are keeping yourself in the love of Christ. You are unmovable in Christ.
Are you still with me? Okay, great.
Fourth, get ready for this one. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, “always abounding in the work of the Lord.”  Today, abound. Break up the day: morning, noon, and night. Decide on three things you can do in the name of Jesus today. Write them down if you’re serious. It will take hard work to think, “What can I do for You today, dear Lord?” It will take hard work to sit still and listen. Then, be resolute. Be steadfast. Be unmovable in your decision to be more for Christ.
Wow! You are almost there! Like Rocky training hard and running to the top of the hill, get ready to raise your arms over your head in victory. Here comes a powerful promise from your Savior.
The last point contains the promise.  “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”  There it is. Christ is not unfaithful to forget your labor of love. Live loyal to Christ each moment, unmovable, resolute, steadfast. Moments add up to hours, and hours to days. Live each moment with purpose for Christ and it will add up to years, and a life full of the increase of Christ.
It’s an awesome opportunity to live this life for our Lord Jesus Christ. Have an inspired day in Christ. Remember,
