Today we begin another seven day sprint. We are now past the halfway point in our 40 Days of Increase. The whole point of this 40 day challenge is this: For Christ to increase! We have explored how Christ may increase in all areas of our lives, and in the lives of those around us. We have also asked you to work on memory verses, do daily tasks that aim to have Christ increase, and keep a daily record in your notebook. The notebook itself is to be a left in a prominent place to be a physical reminder to you that Christ must increase.

So, after 20 days, how are you doing?

Psalms 139:23-24  Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:  [24]  And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Ronald Reagan won the presidential debate in his day by asking one question: Are you better off now than you were four years ago? Allow Christ to ask you a similar question: Have I increased in your life in the past 20 days? As a pastor, we can never know for sure what is happening in hearts and minds of our people, but I sense an increased desire in our church for Christ to have the preeminence.

I see new faces at our church. There is rejoicing at news of people accepting Christ. Folks are being baptized nearly every week at Antioch, and there is an upbeat spirit in the air. Attendance is not skyrocketing, but it is steadily rising. Not only that, it seems that there are more difficult situations in our church family, too. This is causing our people, I believe, to cry out to God in utter dependence on Him.

Has Christ increased in our church in the past 20 days, I would have to say yes, all glory to His name.

To what end is all this increase. I mean, what’s it all about? So what if Christ in increased…does it really matter? I have three answers for that question:

  1. Yes.
  2. Yes!
  3. Absolutely, yes! It matters.

In the next six days of this seven day sprint, we will answer yes to that question not just three times, but six more times. We will  look at important areas of your life and mine. Each day we will answer this question: In light of eternity, why does it really matter if Christ is increased?

Your practical task for today

  • Pray and ask God to give you an eternal perspective.
  • Write out your memory verse, Colossians 3:16, and get ready, we are going to combine it with Colossians 3:17 soon. By the end of the next 20 days you goal is to recite both verses together. Even if you haven’t tried to memorize either yet, let me encourage you to do it. Memorizing Scripture is amazing because the living words of Christ actually become part of your mind and heart. There’s too much to say about that here, but it is miraculous when the eternal words of God begin living in the here and now.
  • Answer this question: List three ways Christ has increased in your life in the last 20 days. This takes serious thought, but it is seriously important. Christ is either growing or shrinking in our lives. Let’s make sure He is increasing, and we are decreasing. Amen?

Have an awesome and inspired day in Christ.

He Must Increase, Antioch’s theme for 2017, taken from John 3:30. The devotions explore this theme and how Jesus must increase in our lives, other’s lives, and in the homes, churches and nations of the entire world.
